Frequently asked questions
Is my data actually private?
Yes. Documents are encrypted locally with AES-256-GCM. Your encryption key is generated on your device and stored in the iOS Keychain (hardware-backed). Even with iCloud Backup enabled, data is encrypted before it leaves your device — neither Apple nor the developer can decrypt it.
Does the app work offline?
Completely. All core features — scanning, storing, viewing, and exporting — work without an internet connection. iCloud Backup requires internet but is entirely optional.
Do I need to create an account?
No. CoverID Redact stores everything locally on your device by default. No account, no sign-up, no email required.
What documents can I store?
Passports, national IDs, residence permits, visas, driver licences, insurance and health cards, transit passes, gym memberships, work verification documents, and more. Any card or document you might need to show or share.
Why is redaction important?
When sharing a passport or ID copy, you often don't need to expose every detail — document numbers, facial portraits, and barcodes can be misused. Redaction lets you hide those fields before sharing, reducing the risk of identity theft or unauthorized reuse.
What are purpose banners?
Purpose banners add watermark text to your exported copy — for example, "for verification only — Endesa contract 123456". This makes it harder for anyone to reuse the copy for unintended purposes.
What happens if I lose my device?
If you enabled iCloud Backup, you can restore your vault on a new device using your Apple ID and master encryption key. Without a backup, documents stored only on the lost device cannot be recovered — we never have access to your encryption keys.
What's included in Pro?
Pro unlocks smart redaction (solid, blur, pixelation), purpose banners, quality controls for safer sharing, PNG and PDF export, home screen widgets, individual document locks, and deletion protection.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. Go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your device, find CoverID Redact, and cancel. You'll keep Pro features until the end of the current billing period.
Is there an Android version?
CoverID Redact is iOS-only. It's built specifically for iPhone and takes advantage of native features like Face ID, widgets, and iCloud. There are no current plans for Android.
Will exported copies be accepted everywhere?
Acceptance depends on the receiving organization. CoverID Redact is a tool for creating purpose-limited copies — it does not guarantee that any particular copy will be accepted by a hotel, employer, or government office.
